Mrs. Payne Whitney's big chestnut colt Twenty Grand was last year's Kentucky Derby winner and three-year-old champioit. His winnings for two seasons were $259,925. He was one of the few horses in the U. S. who was thought to have a chance of beating Australia's late great Phar Lap. This spring there were reports that Twenty Grand was ailing.
