In Salonica the unwritten Greek law about Jews worked again last week. Eight Greeks, shown by overwhelming testimony to have set the Jewish quarter of the city afire last June, were called by the Greek prosecutor "guilty of excesses which are a blot on civilization"—but he asked acquittal for six of the blotters and only four months imprisonment for the other two. Promptly the Greek jury, unwilling to punish even two blotters, acquitted all of them.
