In Manhattan, a Philadelphia heavyweight, seasoned Tommy Loughran, one-time light-heavyweight champion of the world, and young Steve Hamas, who was on the Pennsylvania State football team the night Loughran was knocked out by Jack Sharkey, climbed into the ring at Madison Square Garden where Loughran was beaten last month by King Levinsky (see below).
