Greatest of missionaries since Apostolic times was, in Roman Catholic opinion, St. Francis Xavier, who helped to found the Society of Jesus, who died in 1552 on an island near China. His body was placed in the Church of Bom Jesus in Goa. Portuguese India. Canonized in 1622. through him were performed miracles which church authorities recognize as "stupendous."
