¶ Twenty Grand, 3-year-old race horse owned by Mrs. Payne Whitney: the Saratoga Cup, at Saratoga Springs, N. Y., beating Willis Sharpe Kilmer's Sun Beau, world's record money-winner ($356,044) by eight lengths. Sir Ashley† by 81 Mate, who has beaten Twenty Grand in two out of three starts this year, was withdrawn a week before the race with a deep cut in his left hind leg.
