TRANSPORTATION: Shipping Comes Up

U. S. shipping men last week read with satisfaction the new edition of Lloyd's Register of Shipping. They noted especially: 1) Launchings from U. S. shipyards last year came to 246,687 tons, against 126,063 in 1929. 2) From fifth place in 1929, the U. S. rose to second in 1930. First was Great Britain & Ireland with 1,478,563 tons of launchings last year. 3) Despite Depression, world launchings came to 2,889,000 tons, the highest of any year since 1921. 4) The tonnage of motorship launchings was 1,582,994. greater than that of other types...
