Up to the White House portico rolled a borrowed automobile. Crowds gaped at the front seat, stacked with two suitcases and a worn valise, and at the back seat, occupied by Col. Charles Augustus Lindbergh & Wife. They got out, entered the White House. Governor Leslie of Indi- ana, loitering in the lobby, stepped forward for a handshake. Col. & Mrs. Lindbergh marched on to the Executive Offices where President Hoover waited for them. Col. Lindbergh placed himself at the President's left.
