National Affairs: Again, Ma

Texas Democrats last week conducted their preliminary primaries. Eleven candidates were in the field. Most vigorous were Ross S. Sterling, rich Houston publisher, and, by proxy, "Ma" (Mrs. Miriam A.) Ferguson, proxy for her redoubtable husband, James E. Ferguson, onetime impeached Governor of Texas. A one-time bank president, in this campaign he dubbed himself "Farmer Jim." He promised two governors for the price of one, "Ma" in office, "Farmer Jim" in the offices. Publisher Sterling is Governor Dan Moody's Chairman of the Texas State Highway Commission.
