Business: Piped Gasoline

Last week Phillips Petroleum Co. ordered from Republic Steel Corp. 100,000,000 lb. of steel pipe for an 800-mi. pipe line extending from Borger, Tex., to Kansas City and St. Louis. Importance of this line lay not so much in its length as in its function as a carrier of gasoline, not of crude oil. Petroleum companies have hitherto piped crude oil to refineries, but have shipped gasoline almost exclusively by rail and tanker.
