Among the products of the widespread U. S. yearning for a new national anthem was a $3,000 prize competition sponsored by Mrs. Florence Brooks-Aten of Manhattan, philanthropist, instigator of the Brooks-Bright Foundation (for the exchange of British and U. S. schoolboys). Last week the judges, Tenor Lambert Murphy, Musical Writer Sigmund Spaeth, Poet Witter Bynner, Baritone Reinald Werrenrath, announced that the best anthem had been submitted by Musical Writer Frederick Herman Martens (words) of Rutherford, N.
