S.: ¶Passed (53-31) the Tariff Bill (see p. 15). ¶ Adopted a resolution authorizing payments of $25,000 each to Senators-Reject William Scott Vare and William Bauchop Wilson of Pennsylvania to cover costs of their election contest. ¶ Confirmed the nomination of Judge Thomas Day Thacher of New York as U. S. Solicitor General.
