An Italian banker in California and a group of Vermont citizens last week gave up dollars in the cause of learning. Amadeo Giannini, founder of the Bank of Italy in California, deposited a million and a half to the credit of the University of California. Though head of the largest banking organization in the U. S., Giannini refuses wealth. His gift to education was a gift to him, representing five per cent of the bank's profits last year voted to him by his directors.
