On the banks of the river a large, hot, cheering crowd yelled their lungs inside out. "Crack," snapped the starter's gun, and 56 oars buried themselves in the water, while seven megaphoned coxes roared at their crews. Thus began the Varsity eight-oar shell race of the Intercollegiate Regetta.
