In 1899 a man who had been for two weeks a U. S. Senator said to a newspaper friend: "Seven men are running the Senate and I am one of them." That man was Albert Jeremiah Beveridge, who last week died of heart disease in his Indianapolis home. He was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, near the grave of James Whitcomb Riley. Onetime Senator Beveridge was famed as orator, author, statesman. While at De Pauw University he won an intercollegiate oratorical medal, awarded in another year to the late Senator Robert Marion LaFollette....
