Last week was notable on the New York Stock Exchange 1) for the record number of different shares traded in during a single session and 2) for the record high averages at which certain groups of securities sold. Although there are 1,100 security issues listed for trading on this exchange, it is rare that more than one-half are traded in during any one day.
