Usual thousands gathered in Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, to witness the start of the annual international six-day bicycle race. The perennial Reggie McNamara, winner of countless events; his partner, swarth Francesco Georgetti; 28 others, Dutchmen, Frenchmen, Irishmen, Italians, Poles, Jews, with names such as Goosens, Benezatto, Zuchetti, Charlier, Vermeerbergen awaited the starter's gun. Soon they would be going round and round and round. The hours would merge into nights, the nights into days, until all nights and days would be one, an endless circle coiling round and round, until past, present, future...
