THE CONGRESS: Legislative Week: May 31, 1926

The Senate—

¶ Adopted a resolution authorizing an investigation by a special committee of campaign funds and expenditures in this year's primaries and elections. (See below, "The Golden Apple.")

¶ Passed a Civil Service retirement bill providing for maximum annuities of $1,200 a year. (Bill went to joint conference.)

The House—

¶ Passed a bill providing $30,000,000 to be spent during three years in aid of 27,000 disabled War veterans. (Bill went to the Senate.)

¶ Defeated after an acrimonious debate the Haugen farm relief bill, by vote of 212 to 167.
