Education: Simplified Spelling

In Manhattan, the New York State Teachers' Association approved of usages recommended by the Simplified Spelling Board for gradual adoption in schoolbooks used by the State, reported that the simplified spelling movement had the support of 22 other State Teachers' Associations and of 173 universities, colleges, normal schools, including 19 state universities. Simplified spellers drop the superfluous "ough" from "through," "though," "bought"; the superfluous "ue" from "catalogue," "decalogue," "pedagogue," "monologue."
