Antonio Machado handed the resignation of the Cabinet which has been in
office for only one month, to President Gomes.
The Premier had asked the President to dissolve the Parliament,
stating that the hostile majority made it impossible to govern. It
was understood, however, that he declined to sanction the proposal. So
the Cabinet resigned.
