At San Sebastian, Spain, a group of prominent Americans heard for the
first time the celebrated Basque chorus. Among them was Otto H. Kahn,
musical Maecenas of New York. The singing mountaineers made a great
impression upon the Americans. Mr. Kahn donated $5,000 to their fund,
offered to take them across the ocean for American appearances.
