After Senators and Deputies had attended religious services in the Catholic and Protestant Cathedrals, Governor General Timothy Michael Healy, emphasizing the fact that he was acting for King George, addressed a joint session of the Irish Free State Parliament.

His speech contained no reference to the boundary problem between the Free State and Ulster. He said, however, that bonds " issued in America and Ireland in support of the Republican movement which led to the establishment of the Free State " would be redeemed by the Free State.
