Although 110,000 of 148,000 Chicago children who were given public health examinations last year "were found to have various physical defects serious enough to require treatment," yet once more Chicago's death rate is lower than that of any other community of more than a million inhabitants. This was so in 1924. In 1925 the ranking, according to the number of 1,000 deaths per year, was:*
