SWEDEN: Dead

At Stockholm, his birthplace, died Hjalmar Branting, thrice Premier of Sweden, aged 64. Inflammation of the lungs, ending in phlebitis, was his malady.

M. Branting became a Socialist in his 21st year, after a trip abroad. Despite many obstacles, such as imprisonment and fines, he was undaunted in his efforts for Socialism, as his three tenures of the premiership so well show.

Sweden regarded him as easily her most distinguished international politician. His interest in the League of Nations was enthusiastic and he did much useful work on various committees of that body....
