In its issue of July 28, TIME stated that "according to a despatch from Prague," Jan Garrigue Masaryk, son of Thomas Garrigue Masaryk, President of the Czecho-Slovakian Republic, had won the hand of Mrs. Robert Leatherbee, daughter of Charles R. Crane, onetime President of the Crane Valve Co., onetime U. S. Minister to China. Last week, TIME received from Mrs. Leatherbee a categorical denial of the engagement.
