Sawyer, White House physician since his appointment by President Harding, resigned this post in order to return to his home in Marion and take charge of the active work of building the Harding Memorial. Some $900,000 has been raised for this purpose. ¶ President Coolidge appointed Major James F. Coupal as White House physician to succeed General Sawyer.
