James F. ("Dinty") Moore was one of the most experienced and skilled pilots in the U. S. Air Mail Service. Such a man, given a good plane and motor, can outride almost any gale. But on his last flight to Cheyenne, Moore was apparently caught by a 50-mile-an-hour gust when flying low owing to poor visibility. He did not have altitude enough to avoid a fatal crash.
