Dr. Manuel Teixeira Gomez, ex-Ambassador to Great Britain, was elected by Parliament as fourth President of Portugal. He succeeds Dr. Antonio Jose de Almeida, whose term of office (four years) expired.
Dr. Gomes was Portuguese Minister to Britain from the time of the revolution until 1920, when he was raised to the rank of Ambassador to the same country. He continued to hold this office up to the time of his election to the Presidency.
