THE NEAR EAST: The End Again Appears

The Allied Powers at the Lausanne Conference invited Soviet Russia to sign the Straits Convention when the Treaty of Peace is ready for signature. The Straits Convention gives absolute freedom of passage and navigation by water and by air in the Bosphorus, Sea of Marmora and the Dardanelles.

The Allied Delegations received plenary instructions from their respective Governments, which now enables them to conclude final negotiations with the Turks. It is therefore considered possible that the conference will conclude its business during the present month.
