The Richmond

At the speed trials of the new light cruiser Richmond, one of the ten vessels of that class which are being built for the Navy, a new record for greater-than-destroyer vessels was established. On a measured course off Rockland, Me., the new cruiser made 34.48 knotsā€”or 39.2 miles an hour. Except for destroyers, no ship of the United States Navy has ever developed such great speed.
