At the speed trials of the new light cruiser Richmond, one of the ten vessels of that class which are being built for the Navy, a new record for greater-than-destroyer vessels was established. On a measured course off Rockland, Me., the new cruiser made 34.48 knots—or 39.2 miles an hour. Except for destroyers, no ship of the United States Navy has ever developed such great speed.
