What was once the German ship Prince Eitel Friedrich, and is now the transport U. S. Grant, sailed out of New York Harbor for Porto Rico, the Panama Canal, San Francisco and Honolulu. Aboard were 19 Army officers and 980 troops destined for various posts. In addition, the passengers included Secretary of War Weeks, Mrs. Weeks and 27 Senators and Representatives, most of them with their wives, a few with their children.
