Many soldiers made a G.I. line for Roman brothels. One night the
brothels were closed; the city's water system had broken down, the
customers were told.
In a street where whorehouses stood next door to reputable homes,
soldiers with wrong addresses drove respectable Romans frantic. Signs
appeared on front doors: "This house occupied by private family only."
