¶ The Marine Band played "Hail to the Chief"; President and Mrs. Coolidge descended the state stairway followed by Vice President and Mrs. Dawes, and the Cabinet members with their ladies. In the Blue Room doors were flung open and in marched the diplomats of 53 nations, wearing court uniforms, headed by Baron de Cartier, Belgian Ambassador, dean of the diplomatic corps. It was the first state reception of the season at the White House.
