So you may well leave the last galleries with your mind far from the degradations of the slave experience or even the struggles against it. But the center will also play host to temporary exhibitions that will expand on its representations of both themes. "We will prove ourselves to be the museum of the future," promises Naomi Nelson, the center's director of education. She may be right about that. If it also always manages to do justice to the past, the future looks O.K.
