    • The National Geographic Society dug into its archive of maps, rare books and photographs and even peered into its explorers' abodes to create its first home collection. "We all aspire to have a home that looks like we've traveled the world," says John Dumbacher, the society's senior vice president of licensing. Thus a temple in the ancient Khmer Empire was the inspiration for a carved-mahogany armoire ($1,699). Net proceeds from the 2,500-piece line — which includes linens, furniture, lighting and ceramics — will help fund the work of archaeologists and anthropologists.
