President of Macedonia, when the small, twin-engine plane carrying him crashed in a mountainous area; in southern Bosnia. Trajkovski, a Methodist minister and respected moderate who was elected President in 1999, is credited with preventing civil war during an uprising by ethnic Albanians. After nationalists protesting negotiations with the Albanians stormed the Macedonian parliament, Trajkovski exhorted citizens not to "allow hatred to control our lives."
