  • Ray's Chase
A trip to New Orleans left Kinks frontman RAY DAVIES No. 1 with a bullet. Davies, 59, was strolling in the French Quarter on Jan. 4 when thieves snatched his lady friend's purse. The singer of You Really Got Me apparently really got ticked off and sprinted after the muggers, who shot him in the thigh. Davies was released from a local hospital last week as New Orleans police charged one man with the crime and cautioned citizens against pursuing criminals. Mardi Gras drunks and Girls Gone Wild, however, will no doubt continue running down violent offenders.

    Annulled and Void
BRITNEY SPEARS' Las Vegas vows to hometowner JASON ALEXANDER weren't the first celebrity I dos to be undone without divorce. From the annals of annulment:

MICK JAGGER and JERRY HALL'S 1990 Hindu wedding ceremony lacked the proper paperwork — a convenient out when the pair lacked marital satisfaction nine years later.

R.-and-B. crooner R. KELLY dug younger women even before his alleged underage-girl sex tape surfaced. He wed singer AALIYAH when she was 15. Her furious parents put an end to it.

After tying the knot on a Fox reality show, gold digger DARVA CONGER learned rich hubby RICK ROCKWELL'S ex had a restraining order against him. Soon we all wanted one.

    Johnny's Next Sleeper?
Enough with swashbuckling. In Secret Window, due in April, Pirate of the Caribbean JOHNNY DEPP returns to what he does best — a good mope. Depp plays a depressed writer suffering through a divorce and accused of plagiarism by a creepy farmer (John Turturro). "One of the keys to [Depp's] character is his degree of bed head," says David Koepp, writer and director of the Stephen King adaptation. It's nice to see a guy get back to his (unbleached) roots.
