KATHARINE HEPBURN, 96, brainy, glamorous, iron-willed icon of Hollywood's golden age, whose record four best-actress Academy Awards highlighted a screen career that spanned more than 60 years and included such films as Bringing Up Baby , The African Queen and The Philadelphia Story ; at her home in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
