On Sept. 20, a California high school crowned 16-year-old Cassidy Lynn Campbell, who was born male, homecoming queen. The same week, some 2,500 miles away in Pennsylvania, school administrators told Kasey Caron, 17, that he could not run for homecoming king because he was born female.
