Mehreen Faruqi, a Pakistani-born environmental engineer, is the epitome of the Australian spirit of "giving people a fair go." Arriving in Sydney in 1992 with her husband and young son, Faruqi earned her Ph.D. and worked in water management. Her husband started out driving a taxi, before scoring a job as a civil engineer.
