PROSTATE-CANCER SCREENING

Testing for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) can detect early prostate cancers, but these tumors tend to be slow-growing. A study confirms that men who get regular PSA screens don't live longer than men who don't since even those with high PSA levels tend to die of causes other than prostate cancer.

NICOTINE REPLACEMENT

Gums and patches loaded with nicotine don't help smokers quit long term--not surprising, since they're designed to ease smokers through nicotine withdrawal but...
