Person of the Year
It was highly commendable that the protester was chosen as TIME Person of the Year [Dec. 26]. However, your inclusion of the British August rioters alongside the martyrs of Tahrir Square (among others) is disgraceful. However tragic the social causes of the riots, people looting from their own communities cannot legitimately be compared to civilians facing down soldiers in the name of democracy. In the riots, which took place in some of the poorest areas of the U.K., it was ordinary people who suffered most from the lawlessness.
