We asked TIME 100 honorees to submit nominations for 2011's Person of the Year. Some selections

General David Petraeus

Director of the CIA and former commander of the International Security Assistance Force

My recommendation is Mohammed Bouazizi, the Tunisian street vendor whose suicide by self-immolation touched off the events in that country that led to the Arab Spring. I would also suggest the populations of the Arab Spring countries, with special mention to Steve Jobs and social-networking pioneers whose products were instrumental to those movements.
