Re "A Phony War on Deportation?" [Briefing, June 27]: The article begins with President Obama's visit to Puerto Rico and continues with the fact that most Puerto Rican voters in the U.S. are unhappy with the President's immigration policies. It then calls out a statistic on the 11.2 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., none of whom is Puerto Rican. Why mix the visit to a U.S. territory whose residents are U.S. citizens with the immigration problems of those who are illegals?

I am puzzled as to why Steven Gray would choose Puerto Ricans to illustrate his point concerning deportation of undocumented immigrants. Is he aware that Puerto Ricans have been U.S. citizens since 1917? As such, we are not subject to deportation. By definition we can never be undocumented. Only people who immigrate are subject to immigration laws.

    Cyprus on the Map

The small map heading the article on Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, "Turkey's Man of the People," omitted the island of Cyprus 40 miles off Turkey's southern coast, a member of the European Union one-third of which is occupied by Turkish military forces [June 27]. As Turkey strives to enhance its role in international affairs, the problem of Cyprus will not be so easy to make disappear.
