For those of you who like exotic meats, you may want to avoid armadillo steaks: they might give you leprosy. While the disease is rare in the U.S.--most cases are imported from other countries--scientists puzzled by the few reports of leprosy among people who hadn't traveled to areas where it's endemic recently traced the source to armadillos. Using genetic sequencing, they matched up strains of leprosy-causing bacteria from patients and several of the armored animals, which are among the few creatures other than humans that carry the bug.
