Air pollution, including particulates from wood smoke and car exhaust, may contribute to the risk of heart disease by promoting inflammation in lung tissue and blood-vessel cells. But inexpensive high-efficiency particle air (HEPA) filters that remove 60% of indoor particulates can lower markers of inflammation in the blood by 33% and improve functioning of vessel cells.

    NATURAL DISEASE CONTROL

Migrating animals, like their globetrotting human counterparts, can help spread infectious diseases from one place to another. But as it turns out, that movement may also be an effective way to stop pathogens from flourishing, by removing infected animals from a host community and allowing healthy members to escape disease-infested locations.
