Making the Poor Even Poorer

Don't get Wahyu Nanikpurwandari wrong, she is grateful for what she has. The 26-year-old from Lampong, Indonesia, feels fortunate to live in Hong Kong where she works as a domestic helper. She feels lucky to be able to send money home to support her sister and brother. Maybe sleeping in her employer's living room isn't so nice, but there isn't space for her anywhere else. And yes, working 16 hours a day, six days a week can be exhausting, but that's her job. She earns less than $1 an hour, and that's okay too, she knew what she was signing on...
