Digital videodiscs are enormously popular, and high-definition televisions are finally starting to catch on. But the next logical step--DVDS that carry high-definition (HD) movies--has proved to be a difficult one. Ordinary DVDs can't hold the data required for true HD video, and electronics manufacturers haven't been able to agree on a new DVD format with enough capacity to do the job.
