Late in the evening of Dec. 28, a man walked into a hall at Bangalore's prestigious Indian Institute of Science and opened fire with an AK-56 rifle on delegates attending an academic conference. The gunman killed a retired mathematics professor and injured four others before fleeing over a wall. No one has yet claimed responsibility, and the attacker has eluded a massive manhunt, but Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), a group that aims to drive India out of Kashmir, is considered a prime suspect.
