Interview: Aamir Khan

More than any other Indian film star, Aamir Khan has made a career out of being choosy. In an industry where actors often complete several movies a year, Khan's last film was 2002's Oscar-nominated Lagaan . He returns this month with The Rising: The Ballad of Mangal Pandey , an account of an 1857 revolt against India's colonial rulers, the British East India Company. While heavily fictionalized, the film is based on a true story, and has sparked an outcry from conservative historians, politicians and even Pandey's descendants, who filed suit in a Delhi court to block the film.
