A Supersonic Boom?
Concorde may be grounded, but its spirit is still soaring. Efforts are under way to get a supersonic successor aloft, just 20 months after Concorde's last commercial flight. Officials from the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies and the French Aerospace Industries Association last week signed a research accord to help develop next-generation craft, including a replacement for Concorde. The project will involve industry players including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Safran Group, Airbus owner EADS and Kawasaki Heavy Industries which will contribute know-how and about $6 million in funding over three years.
